  2. That's awesome! I got my hands on this book at Crossword, but didn't buy it coz I was looking for something else at that time. I would really love to have this in my book collection! :)

Book currently reading: The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma.

Favourite book: The Inheritance of Loss by Kiran Desai. I love this book because it has a nice feel to it. You know that positive and soothing feeling when you read a good book? That's what I felt reading this one. It's set in the Kanchenjunga mountains and America in the '80s and that's the era I love. The writing style is captivating as well. Just love it! :D

Fav. catch phrase: [From Inheritance of Loss] "Could fulfillment ever be felt as deeply as loss? Romantically she decided that love must surely reside in the gap between desire and fulfillment, in the lack, not the contentment. Love was the ache, the anticipation, the retreat, everything around it but the emotion itself."

I loved Inheritance of Loss too, but I wouldnt consider it one of my favorite books and nowadays I'm thinking of re-reading because I think I didnt get it fully. It was definitely a really complex book.

  4. 1) I am reading Truly, Madly Deeply, by Faraaz Kazi.

    2) My all time favorite book: Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie.

It speaks of a country personalizing it at every bend of the story, genre mix and match and build up the disaporic sense, missing nothing in between.

3)"Who what am I? My answer: I am the sum total of everything that went before me, of all I have been seen done, of everything done-to-me. I am everyone everything whose being-in-the-world affected was affected by mine. I am anything that happens after I've gone which would not have happened if I had not come. Nor am I particularly exceptional in this matter; each "I," every one of the now-six-hundred-million-plus of us, contains a similar multitude.

I repeat for the last time: to understand me, you'll have to swallow a world."
    ~from Rushdie's Midnight Children

  11. Currently Reading: Only Time Will Tell by Jeffrey Archer.

Favourite book: This one is tough, just too many of them. Still I will go with a Bengali novel Chander Pahar by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay (tr: Moon Mountain by Pradeep Sinha), because its a fast paced classic which is set in India and Africa in the early twentieth century, the book smoothly blends elements of a thriller, fantasy and travelogue into an action-packed adventure story. It sets in a young mans quest for a rare diamond mind hidden in the Kilimanjaro mountains and protected by a strange invisible creature and after he reaches there after brushing moments of death and hardships he faced during the journey, he never realizes when the destination comes and comes to know about it after he leaves the place and has no way of going back there again.

Favourite catch-phrase: But a man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated. From the book The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway.

Mafia Queens of Mumbai: Stories of Women from the Ganglands by S. H. Zaidi & J. Borges

    2) Which is your favorite book and why?
Really tough to name just a single book as favorite but if I have to, I would name ‘Shantaram’ by Gregory David Roberts.
I just love the lucid and beautiful way the book is written in. It’s a book which can become part of your consciousness, part of your thinking and living. Its one of those rare one's which have the ability of changing one’s perception subtly, for the better. A Modern classic!

    3) Which is your favorite catch-phrase from a book?
"There is only one sin. And that is theft... when you tell a lie; you steal someone’s right to the truth." ~ The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

    > Midnight At The Dragon Cafe by Judy Fong Bates.

    2. Which is your favorite book and why?
    >My favorite book is The Lord Of The Rings by J.R.R.Tolkien. I think its the best work of fiction, the book includes everything - deep human feelings, heroism, temptation of power, the good, bad and evil, love, courage..everything! And ive read it over a hundred times already!

    3. Which is your favorite catch phrase from a book?
    > "The sun rises every day. What is to love? Lock the sun in a box. Force the sun to overcome adversity in order to rise. Then we will cheer! I will often admire beautiful sunrise, but I will never consider the sun a champion for having risen."

  20. Book I am reading right now?
    After Tamerlane - John Darwin

    Favorite Book?
Gosh! This is going to be hard..It has to be "The Tale of Two cities" by Dickens. There is so much poignancy and depth in the novel. The person you wish were dead in the beginning makes you feel so miserable about wishing that by the end..I don't think I have been moved more by a fictional piece..although ask me in half and hour and I will talk about another one.

    Favourite Quote:

Truly the Universe is full of ghosts, not sheeted churchyard spectres, but the inextinguishable elements of individual life, which having been, can never die, though they blend and change, and change again for ever.

    What am I reading now?
Love on the Rocks - Ismita Tandon Dhanker

    My favorite book -
Gone with the wind - The way Maragaret Mitchell has etched out the characters, I simply love some and love to hate some characters from the book. The characters of Scarlett and Rhett are way ahead of their time and simultaneously relevant in any time frame. I like Scarlett for living her life on her terms and I hate her for running after an illusion. Like Rhett for knowing the society in and out and not caring a bit what people will say and always doing what he thinks is right. The setting, theme and charm of the novel cannot be matched by any of its contemporaries.

    Favorite quote:

'Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn' - Rhett Butler in GWW All the frustration, anger bottled up over years over Scarlett's immaturity is conveyed in this simple but effective line - which continues to be used by people even now.

I love that quote too. Its a lot of fun to say! :D

  25. Right now, I'm reading Crime & Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky. He never disappoints!

It is much too difficult to single out only one book, but for now I'd have to say Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. Not only is it fantastically written, but the characters that she created were just so other-wordly. It was after reading this book that I realized the wonders I could do with only my imagination and a pen between my fingers.

As for my favourite quote, the one that comes to mind is this one:
"I am haunted by Humans." - The Book Thief, Markus Zusak.
I think Zusak has a lovely, poetic, post-modernist style. The book was really good, and this is one quote that stands out from the many. :)
